I created this lightweight calculator site as I buy a lot of bonded wine and have also started making wine myself, and repeatedly have to Google to find the right answers. Which gave me the idea for this site as a one-stop calculator place for wine lovers and buyers, collectors, event planners, and hospitality teams, who need quick numbers without opening a spreadsheet. What BottleMath does
BottleMath publishes browser-based calculators for practical wine decisions: landed cost, tax and duty estimates, wedding quantities, restaurant pricing, cellar economics, and serving guidance. The tools are designed to be fast, transparent, and useful on mobile as well as desktop.
Calculators run in the browser, use editable assumptions where rates can change, and are intended for planning rather than professional advice. For site questions, corrections, or privacy requests, use the Contact page.
Editorial approach
When rates, tax rules, or duties can change, the calculator shows editable assumptions so readers can update the numbers rather than relying on a hidden database.
Corrections are welcome. If a calculator uses an outdated rate, unclear wording, or an assumption that should be stated more plainly, the contact page is the best place to flag it.
BottleMath does not sell wine or take orders. Its purpose is to help readers understand the arithmetic behind wine buying, serving, storage, and production decisions before they spend money elsewhere.
Why the calculators are intentionally narrow
Wine buying questions can look simple until the assumptions are made explicit. A case price may be quoted in bond, a restaurant comparison may ignore corkage, a wedding estimate may forget non-wine drinkers, and a cellar return may look attractive before storage and resale fees are included.
BottleMath is built around those practical gaps. Each tool tries to expose the part of the decision that is easy to miss: tax layering, litres of pure alcohol, realistic pours per bottle, carrying costs, or the difference between a headline price and a usable final number.
The calculators are not professional financial, legal, customs, or winemaking advice. They are planning tools for wine enthusiasts who want a transparent estimate before checking the final rules, merchant terms, or lab numbers that apply to their own situation.
How the site is maintained
The site is updated when a calculation needs clearer wording, when a rate changes, or when a reader spots an assumption that should be easier to edit. I try to keep the tools narrow enough that the arithmetic is visible rather than hidden behind a black-box recommendation.
Because wine rules, taxes, and personal circumstances vary, every result should be checked against the merchant terms, venue policy, government guidance, or lab result that applies to the real decision.
The aim is not to tell people what to buy or drink. It is to make the hidden arithmetic easier to see, especially in situations where wine pricing is split across invoices, service fees, storage, duty, VAT, or assumptions about how much people will actually drink.
As the site grows, new pages should stay in that lane: practical, transparent, and specific enough that a reader can understand the calculation without needing to trust a black box.
That is also why BottleMath keeps visible links to terms, privacy information, contact details, and corrections. A small calculator site still needs to be clear about who it is for, what it does, and where its limits are.
